Eddie Harris is a musician whose name should be known to everyone, but if you asked 100 people today, probably 99 or more wouldn't know who you were talking about.
Mostly known as a jazz saxophonist, his first album came out in 1961 called "Exodus To Jazz."
The title track was the first jazz record to be certified gold.
Eddie also played the keyboards and sang, and in the 60's and 70's his music became more of a jazz-funk.
He experimented with his instruments and created a reed trumpet, a trumpet with a saxophone mouthpiece, the saxobone which was a sax with a trombone mouthpiece, and the guitorgan that was a combination of guitar and organ.
Here's a very funky song driven by the bass of Bradley Bobo and the percussion of Willie Bobo, from Eddie's 1975 album titled "Bad Luck Is All I Have."
Oddly enough, Bradley Bobo and Willie Bobo are not related.
