JOHN M. BENNETT & SCREAMIN' POPEYES - "El Ninguneo" (Early 1990's)

Jeff Olson of Screamin' Popeyes and I used to write each other a lot. I even sent him some records I got from Bulgaria one time. I found this letter dated 9-24, but I'm not quite sure of the year, probably 1992 or 93. Here's the first sentence: "Thanx for giving "El Ninguneo" a listen, maybe it all makes sense to John. We had fun with it anyway." The John he's referring to was a poet named John Bennett, and on this tape John does his thing, and the Popeyes provide the spacey background sounds. Give it a listen and hear for yourself! There are no titles or words to describe it!

RATTUS REXX - "Echoes Of The West" (1987)

In early 1988, I sent the 113th copy I had of "The Worm's Turn" to Lord Litter, and #116 went to Winfried Pickart in Germany. The rest is literally history! Winnie Pickart passed away a few years ago, but at least we still have stuff like this to remember him by. His partner Gaby Hünnerbein was the other vocalist in the band. Gaby now is known as Gaby Tiger, and she and her band are still performing today! The words and music were written by Winfried Pickart on all but one song. The rest of the credits read like this. Winnie: Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Casio, and Xylophone, Gaby on Vocals, Rene Esser playing Saxophone, and Peter Kraff on Lead Guitar on one song. This tape was recorded on a Yamaha MT1X 45SpurRec. This is what I call, "Just Good Music!"

Here's a nice candid shot of Winnie and Gaby from back in the day that I got from Gaby via Lord Litter!

TAPE REBEL 7 - "Weed Music" - Winfried Pickart (1989)

"Tape Rebel 7" was a compilation tape of various artists on the "Weed Music" label based in Germany, and run by a fine gentleman, and a good friend of mine named Winfried Pickart, who I was saddened to find out just passed away a few years ago. "Tape Rebel 7" was made in 1989, and the art was by a Spanish artiste named Miguel Angel Martin. I did lots of tape trading with musicians in Germany, the music was always good, and the people were having fun. I don't know the truth, but I wouldn't be surprised if this whole cassette scene didn't originate in Germany, because they were seriously into their networking! We were lucky enough to be included on this tape along with Frozen Planets, Ignition, Z.B.Z., Schorsch + Die Honka, Heinz Küppers, PCR, Solanaceae Tau, and Winnie Pickart's own fine band, Rattus Rexx. This whole tape was great, and here's one cool little pop song from it!

ARRINGTON DE DIONYSO - "Big Lung Samba" (1993)

I got this tape called "Big Lung Samba" from Arrington de Dionyso in 1993. Arrington hails from Olympia, Washington, and worked at KAOS radio station. He played all the instruments himself.
He calls his new music shamanic seance.......

HERD OF THE ETHER SPACE - "Dada's Little Psycho" (1990)

Herd Of The Ether Space were from Oakland, Ca., but this tape was released on the Matthias Lang "IRRE -Tapes" label from Germany. "Dada's Little Psycho" was released in 1990, and if you can't tell by the title that's it's not top forty fodder, then you're in for a big surprise!

They say it takes all kinds to make the world go round, and that's exactly what Herd Of The Ether Space is.....All Kinds, and it looks like those kinds here are George Gibson, Charles Goff III, Robert Silverman, and Killr Kaswan.

Dennis Worden's STICKBOY SONG CONTEST LOSERS Compilation (1991)

In 1991 Comix Artiste Extraordinaire Dennis Worden decided he was going to have a 'Stickboy' song contest. He offered up the lyrics to three songs and the musicians could do their own arrangements! (If that's what you want to call them) I forgot who actually won. The three songs were titled "Could A Heart," "Raw Rat Burger," and "Gotta Be A Ghoul," and this tape featured the losing entries!

We did a version of "Raw Rat Burger" and killer Comix artiste J. R. Williams, the proprietor of  "J.R. Williams' Fun House!" decided to do a cool version of "Gotta Be A Ghoul!" The rest of the entries besides us and J.R. were Sore Jackson, Iron Duke Melon, The Mary Paul Experience, Karl Hendricks, The Home Rangers, Stephen Hunking, Clevo, Fatner Flint, Free Dummy, and The Mumbles! The Mumbles did a medley of all three tunes and is probably the best of the bunch, but since we're all losers, for now, here's J.R. and....

Because Gary and Dennis were comic buddies, we also got to add another song to the tape that wasn't one of the three choices! It was a song called "GOB" based on one of Dennis's characters, using words from a "GOB" comic that we did on an earlier tape called "Too Close To The Kitty."

DINO DIMURO - "A Real Pretty Rose" (1986)

Dino DiMuro was an incredibly talented musician from L.A. who was also a good friend of Don Campau, so I sent Dino one of our tapes and this was the tape he sent in return! Needless to say, it blew me away! Our music was impromptu, loose, and sloppy, and Dino's was insanely well thought out, intelligent, and meticulous!  Like no comparison!

Dino DiMuro was a hopeless romantic with a sense of humor who was in love with everyone from amazing cartoon artiste Lynda Barry to Don Campau's daughter Nicole, and the world is lucky, because he liked to write about it!

On this tape Dino is joined by Greg Gray on drums, and Don Campau on one track, but the rest of it is all attributed to Dino! I don't think anyone has ever come as close to the sound of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band as the guitar work on this undying ode to love called "Lynda Barry," so enjoy!!!
