"If You Can't Rock Me" was the 'B' side of a single by Rockabilly band The Strikes titled "Baby I'm Sorry" that came out in 1956. The song by The Strikes I wanted to play was titled "My Poor Heart," and was nowhere to be found on YouTube, but that's fine, because this song rocks!
I read they were not happy to have the label read Vocal by THE THREE PELVES"
The Strikes were a bunch of college kids, and while they might not look like hip rockers in this promo photo, this group had something different than most rockabilly bands of the era, in fact, if you didn't know better, by listening to them you just might think they were from Philadelphia instead of Graham, Texas, because I think they sounded a lot like The Dovells of "Bristol Stomp" fame and fortune.
This record had little success, and the group was only together about a year, but because of the big Rockabilly resurgence in England in the 70's, it was re-released in the UK in 1975 to a much more appreciative crowd.

That's pretty good rockabilly. My wife's uncle passed in March and he left me about 4000 albums, and 40,000 45s. He was a big fan of rockabilly and there is A BUNCH as well as late-'60s-early-70s garage and psych. Lots of Sun records. He was also a big fan of female vocals and there are 3 crates of albums of just that, one of The Beatles, 3 of Elvis, lots of jazz, especially drummers, two of Frank Sinatra. ReplyDeleteNice score!
ReplyDeleteSorry though, to hear about your wife's Uncle's demise. He must have been quite a guy if he had forty thousand 45's. I see a lot of Discogs in your future.
